I am also using a Glyph Portag Gig 50 external hard drive for all recordings. I have made sure to trash preferences and the aptData folder. My work around is to save the session, close ProTools, re-open and then it will play. The cursor does not move along the timeline. I click on the play button and both the play button and the stop button darken for a split second and there is no playback. Sometimes after recording and after stopping I go to listen to the playback. Also in the disable items in Startup I left my antivirus active. I followed every one and implemented them all except for disconnecting my network card. Before submitting this question to the forum I spent considerable time watching the You Tube videos via the link in the troubleshoooting thread.
